🏛️ Title Insurance Is Back in the Congressional Hot Seat — ALTA CEO Chris Morton is urging Congress to pass the Protecting America’s Property Rights Act, a bill aimed at stopping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from shifting title risk onto consumers, lenders, and taxpayers through less-regulated title insurance alternatives. The bill would require stronger, state-regulated protection for title and lien risk on loans purchased by the GSEs. “Saving money at closing” gets a lot less charming when the missing protection shows up later as a six-figure title problem.
