Oh, and, there is zero requirement for these borrowers to go out and purchase that flood insurance once the program reopens, nor for the lender to remind them.
Action Item 1: Perhaps you should be adding an extra exception to the policy too? Check with your underwriter.
Action Item 2: This is a great customer service opportunity. Make a list of all your borrowers who should have flood insurance but don’t. When the program reopens, send them a notice.
